Why is context so hard….

10th April 2020

Context is such a easy concept to grasp but difficult to implement. We have been trying to explain to cost centre 1 that you have to be careful of things you read or numbers thrown at you. You need context and sometimes understanding of where the reporter is coming from (they say history is written by the victors). The tricky thing is if by doing this, gaining a little knowledge is a good thing or if you still end up distorting and biasing your opinion because you have not read enough.

Additionally you can’t question everything. I remember years ago hearing about someone trying to determine facts for herself. For example she wanted to check the facts behind the world being round and not flat. But how far do you go? There are experts in the world for a reason. We can’t all go around figuring every little thing out from first basis. But it is worrying that in this day and age with fake news and writers trying to grab headlines in a crowded space we definitely do need to query what we hear and decide on ‘facts’ for ourselves.
